First of all, thank-u for visiting BoE/Picture!
This site is a part of a number of others sites that have as their aim to editorially highlight some of the best ethiopian content online. Our objective to spend hours online to do this (instead of something else like getting in shape) is not only to produce an qualitative guide for the ethiopian online community but also to highlight african life, context and online content on the predominantly western dominated Internet.
In finding and highlighting some of the best photographic representations online of Ethiopia we also hope to try enlarge the very (western but also ethiopian) sterotyped mainstream image of Ethiopia. We hope that some of these pictures will provoke thougths, impressions and smiles. We also want to encourge our visitors to interact on this site by commenting, recommending and voting on the pictures but we also would like you to pay tribute to the photographers from all over the world that have with their craft and passion for photography taken these images and provided the public to enjoy them online.
WHO ARE WE & HOW DO WE WORK?
No position, taste or seeing is neutral and we who work in finding the best pictures online therefor do that from a situated position. We are ethiopians or persons with ethiopian heritage, whom live in diffrent geographic places and spend a lot of time online. A common passion we share is that of photography both professionally and privatly. Some of the contexts we work from when we surf around looking for and adding new content to this site are therefor obviosly unique and subjective (and yes, we do publish our own images here aswell) but our common overall scope is to publish images of Ethiopia that are simply astonishing, playful, creative, intresting and tellings or inspires a story/the mind.
LEAVING ON A COPYRIGHT NOTE…
We do not upload images but link to pictures already online which are availble under the Creative commons (mostly from Flickr). When publishing other images than on photo sites like Flickr we ofcourse ask the photographer/owner for special premission. We do not sell images. Or make money on other peoples´ pictures. The ads figuring on this site are our supporters and friends online so please do visit our sponsors!
We come in peace with the aim to please the eye and expand the mind with ethiopian representations!
